Do not plan, planning is terribly materialistic. Be free and live spiritually. Then good things come to you. The mind should not be cluttered with objectives, aims, mission, anticipations and expectations other than to attain peace, for peace for the individual brings ananda which is a spiritual treasure.
If you entertain actions designed to hurt someone your own mind also in turmoil so there is loss of peace for onself and you become necessarily alert to the possible repercussions of your actions. Such a state of alertness and readiness to effectively attack someone or pursue an objective such as fighting off attacks or resisting intrusions lead to suffering and loss of peace of mind. Stay still if all avenues for material welfare are closed consequently. Otherwise, you further waste time and money so drift into poverty. Be satisfied and content with what little you have after doing everything spontaneously nonchalantly and unpremetoditatedly for your actions. That is freedom and liberty.
Planning gets the mind stuck to aims and generates fear of the unknown in a totally uncertain future so that when you do face an action whether positive to you or negative you cannot react instantaneously to take advantage of the positive opportunity that comes nor react with survival instinct to the negative and intrusive dangers that confront you. Stillness of the mind is peace that makes one live in automatic awareness of any given situation for ones correct reactions towards material and spiritual welfare.
So wait for the doors to open. Then walk in positively and constructively to see and explore new horizons and destinations in life. That is the freedom to live to the purpose of living.
In short, do not dwell in the past. The knowledge from ones experiences is there in the memory should the next moment's circumstances need it for positivity of mind.
